David RuhL
David is a U of T engineering graduate, Professional Engineer and contractor with over 12 years of experience in building restoration and new construction. David is deeply passionate about building design and the art and craft of building houses.
In the summer, when he’s not in his workshop or wearing a tool belt, he’s probably on a boat, a drive or a walk with Lee and their two dachshunds, Genie and Winnie. In the winter you’ll find Dave next to the fire with a record playing and a dachshund close at hand.
Lee Vosburgh
Lee is a lifelong creative with a passion for enduring design and creating spaces that offer ease and refinement. After earning a Bachelor of Design at OCADU, she went on to work in advertising and content creation with a focus in intentional style and living.
In the summer, when Lee’s not curating a space or capturing the process, you’ll find her in the garden, inspecting the flowers and veggies with her dachshunds, Genie and Winnie. In the winter she’s usually got a novel or a design book on the go with Evie, the cat in her lap and something delicious roasting in the oven.
What is
steep hill?
Steep Hill was originally built in the early 1900’s. Its unassuming architecture and immersive setting attracted our attention. So too did its desperate need for a total overhaul.
We have been working on renovations of increasing complexity over the past 10 years through our construction business Ruhl Builds. Through this work, we developed a taste for old homes, antique details and difficult projects. Steep Hill seemed like the perfect place to apply our skills and knowledge. In 2021, we moved to Steep Hill full time to begin preparing and planning for our biggest project yet: the reconstruction of Steep Hill cottage.
Here at Steep Hill Studio, we are exploring the design and construction details of the project to help others tackle their own Steep Hill.
